A further 5 make it from the Austrian team that reached the second round of the 1978 World Cup, famously beating West Germany in the process. Sara starts ahead of Blum because he is probably better suited to being a wing-back in this system. Sesta was very close to Happel and Alaba's spots in the starting XI. Obermayer just made the bench ahead of the likes of Karl Stotz, Willibald Schmaus and Karl Rainer. Blum and Sesta can be options as 4th choice centre-backs. Nausch, Koller, Gschweidl and Decker can be cover for the midfield diamond, while Binder and Krankl can be options upfront. Gschweidl made it ahead of Andi Herzog, while there were many great forwards in the country's history who couldn't make it, including Toni Polster, Ernst Stojaspal, Hans Horvath, Robert Dienst, Erich Probst and Jan Studnicka. I chose Schall as my final pick as the best player not yet included, with he and Hanappi capable as wide options if necessary. Karl Zischek would have been the best natural option here.
