STARTING XI
REMAINING SQUAD MEMBERS
3 best players not in the squad:
4 of Uruguay's 1930 World Cup winners and 4 from the famous 1950 winners make the team. Only Godin, Suarez, Cavani and Forlan make it as players who primarily played in the 21st Century, although Suarez has possibly become the nation's greatest ever player. He is probably the greatest ever South American player outside of Brazil and Argentina, just ahead of Schiaffino. Victor and Jose Andrade could be the equivalent of defensive-midfielders or wing-backs in the modern game. They are both in the starting XI as full-backs to allow Goncalves and Varela to start in the midfield, but Jose Andrade can also be the back-up option in the squad to Goncalves' defensive midfield role. Nasazzi can cover as a back-up right-back after Ancheta if necessary. Rocha can then cover for Schiaffino, while Forlan can be back-up to Francescoli's second striker role. Scarone can also drop back and play there. Cavani and Petrone can then cover the front 2. For my final 2 picks, and needed wide options on either side. I chose Luis Cubilla on the right, but the left was more difficult. I believe Angel Romano often played on the left - he seemed like the best option.
